Being in this business you have the opportunity to meet many fine people and musicians. I had such an opportunity when meeting Mr. Joseph Diamond. I heard that he had a CD out and contacted him. Wow was I surprised. I listened to the CD and was amazed. Although, he does not have a latino surname he definately has latino blood in his veins. He studied with the highly recognized and respected, Señor Oscar Hernandez. It definitely shows in his more latin oriented tunes. This CD was self-produced but that should not discourage Latin jazz afficionados from picking this one up. Lately, I have come across some "self-produced" gems and this one is right there with the rest. The line-up of musicos is as follows;

As Maria Von Dickersohn states "Let Joseph Diamond make a believer out of you." The selection of tunes is all original material and in this day in age when everybody is doing covers, this was especially what caught my attention. To me Latin Jazz is an expression of a musical style that is open to interpretation and everyone has theri own voice to be heard. You have the traditional and the experimental. This is a very solid recording and deserves attention. Radio and now the Internet have become powerful vehicles in the exposure of our beautiful musica. We need to support and encourage artists like Mr. Joseph Diamond so that we may a diverse forms of expression. No Latin Jazz collection would be complete with out it. Buena Suerte Joseph.
